SUMMER HEAT

Summer heat

on my face

The sky opens up

like a lover's embrace

Violet shadows,

dreams of rain

windows open

to numb of the pain

lizards scamper on

heated stones

monuments aflame

in ancient Rome

ALONE IN THE CITY

Buildings loom like scowling ogres

The streets look desolate and empty

uninviting and daunting

Each foot step sounds metallic

like a hammer hitting an iron bar

echoing in the stark silence

Nobody to exchange words with

Empty bars with no customers

The jukebox is out of order

distant whispers from invisible people

shadows creeping along walls

distant footsteps approaching

then disappearing in the night

I stroll alone in the city

with my heart pounding

alert as a deer venturing from its cover
