A Thief Within
Eyes shut to a back door
left unlocked—
a thief lets herself in.
Dreams progress
to heartbeats in bed,
where beneath blankets,
scenarios circulate within.
What’s next?
A soul left unscathed?
A shared
broken breath?
Comfort’s sliced
by confusion below—
feet on creaking floorboards,
whispers— muffled tones
beyond the locked door,
make mysteries
out of a once-beloved home.
What’s broke?
A deafening crash,
a damage—
unknown.
Too suddenly—
pin drop silence
smothers booming thoughts—
is the thief returning?
Are the goods all gone?
No trace, no clue,
a hundred thousand treasures— lost.
How’s home?
A trashed-up mansion,
an owner—
alone.
